I've been saying it for years and science is finally proving me right. A recent study has shown that going to a "public cultural event" has an impact on your internal hormones. Corisol, which is known as the stress hormone, showed a decrease in levels when subjects attended such events.
The study, conducted by Daisy Fancourt, a research associate at the Centre for Performance Science in the UK, involved 117 participants, all with varying degrees of experience with music and concerts. They attended the same concert twice and had saliva samples taken before and 60 minutes into the performance. Researchers found that there was a drop in both cortisol and cortisone.
Moral of the story is: Attend more live events! Going to concerts has been my no-fail stress-reliever for 15 years. The tension in my shoulders disappears, I'm not thinking about work (or anything else for that matter), and it's the one time I'm completely living in the moment. It's a total escape.
